Mt. set to Continue Push for International Bridge

On Wed Oct. 3rd a meeting is set with International Falls representatives to discuss our next move regarding the Public Purchase of the Bridge. Councils support of a resolution to obtain the necessary financial data on the operation of the bridge will help move the matter to the next stage.

Although the Province has reviewed the financial data they were unable to openly discuss the matter with the Town until a specific non-disclosure agreement was approved by council.

Recently in a meeting with  the Hon. Donna Cansfield, Minister of Transportation, she agreed to insure the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs was briefed on the file, so that a line of communication was opened with the Federal Gov. on this important matter.

I, like the Province, believe that the federal gov. have a major roll to play as the Customs and Security of the Border are Federal matters.

It has been several months of meetings, calls and letters regarding this issue but I believe this will be our only opportunity to achieve Public Ownership, and have some controls over the future tolls.
